RCB’s campaign in the Indian Premier League comprises of two extreme halves. In the first half they played like a team that was there to win, in the second half they completely lost their way. It’s not that they’re playing poor cricket, they’ve just not been good enough. All of their batsmen have some runs behind them, it’s just that they haven’t been able to score freely which has made them settle for a below par score. In the second inning, with all the dew around, chasing gets considerably easier thus conditions also had a role to play in RCB’s misery. So what can RCB do from here? They need to bowl first if they win the toss. It’s a very straightforward decision. However, toss is not something that’s in your control and if they’re forced to bat first, they should aim for a target of around 180. Anything less than this will be very hard to defend. Getting to 180 won’t be easy either. One would assume that Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers will have a big role to play.

For Sunrisers Hyderabad, they’ve turned things around in the most dramatic way. They’re coming back from 3 consecutive victories and are at the top of their game. Wriddhiman Saha at the top has been phenomenal. His blitz in the powerplay allows David Warner to set himself in and later capitalize on the start. Manish Pandey too have been finding some form in the last few games. Credit must also be given to the Hyderabad bowlers for keeping their reputation even after the injury to their lead pacer Bhuveneshwar Kumar. Sandeep Sharma has been brilliant along with T Natarajan and Shahbaz Ahmed. Not much need to be said about the class of Rashid Khan. The only loop hole in Hyderabad team is their middle and lower middle order that hasn’t delivered as per the expectation. Overall, it’s building up for an enthralling encounter but with momentum on their side, Sunrisers Hyderabad are big favourites to win the match

From winning seven of the first nine matches to losing 4 games on the trot, Delhi’s IPL campaign has crashed big time. They now face a must a win situation where a loss will most probaly knock them out of the tournament. That’s how unpredictable cricket is. The problem for Delhi has been their batting as they’ve failed to cross the 150 run mark in the last three games. Neither Prithvi Shaw or Ajinkya Rahane has supported Shikhar Dhawan from the other end. Dhawan too has gone quite after his twin centuries. Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Shimron Hetmyer, all have been below par. The bowlers couldn’t have done much with such low scores but both Rabada and Anrich Nortje looks exhausted. These are not good signs for Delhi Capitals

RCB on the other hand are no different. They too have lost three back to back games and need a win to make it through to the playoffs. Just like Delhi, RCB has been led down by their batting. Individually, all their players have some runs behind them but as a team they’ve failed to deliver collective performances. RCB’s strength is their batting and if that’s not firing, you know they’re in big trouble. Virat Kohli will need his big players to step up in this crunch situation.  In Morris, Chahal and Saini, RCB have a decent bowling attack but with dew around, bowlers are mostly out of the game. The batsmen need to give them additional 30-40 runs to defend. As of now, both teams are on par on paper but we would back Delhi to emerge victorious.

We’re approaching the end if the IPL 2020 and apart from Mumbai, none has cemented its place in the playoffs. RCB need to get those extra 30 runs to give their bowlers a fair chance.

Sunrisers Hyderabad on the other hand are coming back from a massive victory over Delhi Capitals, keeping their hopes alive for making it into the top 4. The victory over Delhi will give Hyderabad a lot of confidence and self-belief. The biggest positive for SRH will be the way David Warner played in that match. Warner was consistently among the runs for SRH but his strike rate must have been concerning for Hyderabad. The last game he looked like the David Warner we all are used to seeing, at his brutal best. Wriddhiman Shaha replaced Jonny Bairstow as an opener and what a move it turned out to be. He played a brutal knock off 87 in just 45 balls, paving way for a massive total. Manish Pandey too made a solid contribution. As a bowling unit, every one delivered as per the expectation. Only if Hyderabad can repeat their last performance, Bangalore will have a hard time defeating them. Overall, both team looks on par in terms of skills but the problem for Punjab has been their over reliance on KL Rahul which can hurt them badly in the long run. Delhi has a definite advantage over Punjab in their next clash.

Rajasthan’s record chase of 226 in their second league game must have send chills down the spine of all the other teams of the competition. Two back to back 200+ scores, two consecutive wins to start the tournament, Rajasthan Royals wouldn’t have imagined themselves at the 6th position in the points table halfway into the tournament. Their batting that looked a force at the start of the tournament has collapsed face down. None of their batsmen look like scoring runs. Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler have run out of gas after their initial onslaught. Steve Smith too doesn’t look his usual self. Same goes with Robin Uthappa and other batsmen to follow. Yes, Rahul Tewatiya has shown promise but Rajasthan needs runs from their top order if they’re to revive their tournament. In the bowling department, Jofra Archer has been outstanding but the rest of the bowlers have been a big led down. Now, it’s a make or break situation for Rajasthan. Either they pick themselves up; or brace themselves for an early exit from the tournament.

The way RCB has played this season; they must have surprised themselves too. Well, jokes apart but Virat Kohli will be delighted to the way RCB has stood up to the occasion. The game against Punjab, however, showed that RCB is vulnerable when put under pressure. As a skipper, Virat Kohli was completely off target against Punjab. Whether it was his decision to send Washington Sunder and Shivam Dube ahead of AB de Villiers or not bowling Sunder in the powerplay, every move he tried, backfired on him. He need to be vary of the fact that even a slightest mistake can cost you the match in this format. Overall, the team is playing and their batting looks as brutal as it could be. The only problem for Virat Kohli will be the performance of their support bowlers. Mohammed Siraj has leaked too many runs for anyone’s liking. Kohli need to fix this quickly or it could nullify all the good work done in no time. Rajasthan has a very good team and though they’re out for form, we’ll back them to pip RCB as the conditions favour them more than Virat Kohli’s men.

KKR might have lost their last game against the Delhi Capitals but the way they went about their business was truly outstanding. KKR was really struggling with their batting in their first few games but their batsmen, in the last two matches have made a real statement. The only problem for KKR will be the form of their skipper, Dinesh Karthik who has failed to impress in the tournament so far. Andre Russell too has not exploded yet. However, they are class players and can’t be kept quiet for too long. In the bowling department they’re doing fine with young guns, Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti beautifully complementing Pat Cummins. Sunil Narine too has been hard to get away.

Chennai Super Kings in their last game looked a team from a parallel universe. A 10 wicket victory will be a huge morale booster for a team that hasn’t looked at his best. Even though they won their last game, their middle order is a worry for them. Players like Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni have looked completely out of touch. They, however, will be jubilant seeing Shane Watson back among the runs. He along with Faf du Plessis, who is in ominous touch, and Ambati Rayudu will hold the key for CSK. Only if other players can chip in with few runs, CSK can be very difficult to beat. In the bowling department, they look pretty settled with Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur bowling splendidly well. Bravo has been outstanding post his return and so does Sam Curran. Overall, it’s all building up for an enthralling contest. KKR though will be slight favorites to win the match.
